POPULATION
The target group for training is anyone 16 years of age and older. Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses teach adult learners how to assist fellow adults, while Youth MHFA (YMHFA) courses teach adult learners how to assist adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18.
FOCUS
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an international, early intervention, public education program that teaches participants to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges.
OVERVIEW
Mental Health First Aid is the original Australian program.
A Rotary Club can be involved in the project by sponsoring sessions in your community for certified trainers to provide in your country and participating in the sessions to help break stigma and raise awareness. Learn what the ALGEE Plan is and how easy it is to use as needed.
BENEFITS
Understanding mental health issues will better equip you to give support. Consider getting trained in MHFA. You’ll learn about common mental health challenges, ways to help and what to look for with topics such as:
• Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
• Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
• How to interact with a person in crisis
• How to connect a person with help
• Trauma, substance use and self-care
COST
Your local trainers will inform you what the costs for the Manuals, Participant Processing Guides and materials be for each participant. Many trainers work under a grant or your club can apply for a District Grant to cover the costs.
